The Magic of Hand Drumming for Beginners - taught by Sherry Gingras of DRUMZ. This is a class for those just embarking on the drummer’s path as well as those who have taken a session or two. We learn basic hand technique, exercises to develop good technique, the “babatunde drum language” to help us learn West African style rhythm patterns, drum circle etiquette, how to select your drum,how to tune a hand drum as well as learning and experiencing in-the-moment-improv with a weekly spontaneous closing rhythm. Drums are furnished for those needing a drum for class! There are two sessions to choose from - Wednesday evening and Saturday morning

Beyond Beginner Hand Drumming Class, taught by Sherry Gingras of DRUMZ. This class is for students already moving along their way on the drummer’s path. Class will work on exercises to improve technique , learn more about rhythm structure and more complex rhythm patterns than beginner level classes. This class will move at a faster pace than beginner classes and students must have a command of the hand technique and the rhythm language ( gun, godo, pata) in order to be in this class.All parts of the ensemble ( bell, djun,shekere,djembe) will be included. There are two sessions to choose from: Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings.

Intermediate Hand Drumming class taught by Sherry Gingras of DRUMZ. This class is for those students who have been drumming for some time and have a mastery of the hand technique and an understanding of rhythm fundamentals and experience playing West African rhythm patterns.
